Saturday morning Miner CT Mike, Mikeg, and myself headed to a mysterious mine not far from the Croton Magnetic. If you recall, CT Mike got a tip from local quad riders after they spotted an IronMiners decal on his Jeep Wrangler while offroading. This led to the discovery of an unknown named mine.

We revisited this time in search of additional workings. While the snow cover made scrutinizing for artifacts difficult, it lead us to a new adit and shaft of the mine. Have a look... http://www.ironminers.com/mineforum/viewtopic.php?p=108843

Very nice! Was that drill bit found in that area where there was some excavation, or was it found somewhere else?

im still amazed we found this one! no trails to it no other big mines nearby, no development, just an untouched adit in the middle of the woods! it would be interesting to get into the other adit too! i think we almost have ever mine working in the brewster area covered!

How much tailings were near the caved adit? Does it appear that it could have been a significantly mined adit? How does it compare to the non-caved adit?

Michael,

Thanks for sharing that information. Do you know specifically if any of those are worth investigating?

I've got lots a ton of old mine maps of the area and I can usually find locations for whatever I am looking for..
