Nice article. It's good to see something that has not been just taken to a scrap yard be brought back to it's past working location.

I personaly won't be involved with the lokie too much if at all. I have enough to worry about with out that. But there already are guys chomping at the bit to get started on it.

Cool piece but wow that needs a lot of serious fabrication work. If you guys keep the saddle tank on that repair alone is very expensive.

More importanyly when was the last time that thing had a boiler ultra sound ? If you guys need us to do that we can make an arrangement with the Number 9.

In one aspect that sucks but in another that is the much lesser expense of the two options by far.

I wouldn't say it will never run again but not in the forseable future. But a good cosmetic restoration is on the way and that will preserve it for the future. I'm just spread to thin as it is to get involved with that. Its easy to jump in a couple of times a year and spend a couple days painting, patching, or whatever but there is a lot of work that goes on just keeping that place, and others like it, running.

Awesome to see the return of the lokie, but man it looks like it's in bad shape. While the tank could be fixed, the boiler is rotten through. It looks like the way they left the engine through the years, they let water and all kinds of stuff get inside. Too bad.. it looks to be even a tough cosmetic restoration, given the metal that needs to be patched. I guess you can do wonders with sheet metal though... ;-)

well the boiler isnt rotten through, but without ultrasound you have no idea how thick it is. where you see it rotten through is the smoke box, and yes that needs some major work. they have their work cut out for them.....

With the smoke box in that bad of shape I bet that front tube sheet is completely shot & that is a very difficult repair to fabricate a new one.
