Today driving back from toronto- went to see the world baseball classic- we stopped at the old UMW hall in Elbon PA. I dont know if anyone here has seen it before but it looks to be very old and is in ok shape i guess. Its now being used as a antique shop. Its located pretty close to Rosebud's "lady Jane" and "Penfield" mines on Route 219. Ill try to post the pictures soon.

As I understand the story:

The Anty Mines were Union until the depression of the 1930. As the mines closed down and the bootleg era started. The Union did little to help the miners.

The UMW wanted little to do with the small mines or miners.

As a result, the small mines are fiercely non-union to this day.

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while.

Remember we are talking about the guy who is trying to think of a way to mate two different wheat lights.

towards the end of the reign of king coal district one was heavily corrupted by organized crime, August J Lippi, for example was its president, if that tells anything. Lippi as everyone knows was a partner in the knox along with John Sciandra who was a boss of the Scranton/W-B La Cosa nostra prior to Russel Buffalino.
