OK Dumb question.

Why are there two different types of charging connectors? I thought there was only one and picked up a second one with a slide on connection.

Is there an adaptor or a way to change them to match.

My charge has the pin and rotate connection.

I found an old lock key that fits the key-style heads perfectly. I just clip alligator clips to the key and the other contact post.

I'm using a 6 volt emergency lighting charger which works good enough to charge a 4 volt battery (thanks Todd!).

doug you have the older old one. the old one is the slide type or the 5200 style it was the replacement for the real old 5100 style, or key type. we all use the old 5100 style. they are a half inch bigger head piece. 5200 style have a transparent red ring around the lamp that lights up when youre using it and my personal feeling of that is it looks and ranks right up there with ridiculous amounts of reflective tape, bitty coal and yogurt. some may like that, i dont. but yea theres 2 different types. choose what ever suits you and cannibalize what ever you have to to make them work. john doesnt have a wheat lamp battery but his is a good example of cannibalizing to make something work real good. they use the slide type up 5200 at the 190 slope tour. if you buy a lamp on ebay make sure you know what kind it is and that it is compatible with the charger you have or are getting.

Great, Why didn't you tell me that last week. Education is so costly.

Now I have a 5100, a 5200 and 5100 charger.

So much for a deal on a light. Anyone looking for 5200 parts?

actually, i have two of them-one with a 12 volt battery and another with a stupid 4 volt Koehler battery. what a brilliant idea A 4 VOLT BATTERY. it has to be just about the only electrical device that runs on 4 volts DC.

Doug, unless you're going into a place that requires a permissible lamp, don't waste your time with that junk 4 volt system. special charger, special battteries.

i got a 12 volt, 7 A-h SEALED lead-acid battery for $15 (lasts 14+ hours), a bulb with a high/low beam (the low is always brighter than any 4 volt bulb) for $7 and a charger for $20. add an an old wheat lamp head, you're all set.

now lets recount. $42 for a system that lasts just as long as a wheat lamp and you can CHARGE IN YOUR CAR

or

$100 + charger cost for a ridiculous 4 volt system that you have to fill with water.

now i can hear the cries now..... "coon lamp" and so on...

all i can say is, just make sure you filter your battery water... maybe use some of that anthracite. i hear it works good for FILTERING WATER .

yes i do have to admit that johns setup is far superior to a correct wheat lamp with the only reason being it has a great built in welder in case you need to do any welding underground.

John, thanks for the information, but I'm going for the traditional.

On a side note, my Brother-in-law is an operator at a large water treatment plant. We were discussing the process and he mentioned that anthracite was one of the filter steps. He didn't buy the part that it was just hard coal. We relate so well.

For Sale or Trade, one slightly used Brother-in-Law.

There's nothing wrong with a Wheat lamp that also allows you to see too... 12V is the way to go!
