The trans continental abandoned mine exploration trip continues! We just got back from the trip to the southwest and Mexico. I will try to get the pictures up tonight. The next trip will either consist of California, Oregon, Idaho and Washington or we will go back into Mexico. We did not get underground in Mexico but we did meet a great contact named Efren who would be willing to take us to some very old mines with buildings and equipment still intact.
The Jeep is in storage in Los Angeles so its a toss up for the next trip.....Mexico or the Pacific northwest???

Wow Mike, that was some great shots! Very neat actually.. The gravestone from 1896 was also something else. Were all of the grave stones that old?

yea that was one of the newest many were from 1870s -80s. and many were children or young adults, one family plot had 4 children die within a short amount of time, very harsh life in a mining town on the frontier!

Nice, some more great photos! Yes, I love the timbered inclined shaft. We should get one of your Uncle's hit and miss engines down there, that might be enough to raise that ore bucket.. We could certainly rig something with the jeep though..

BTW, we have slopes too, but that isn't a slope... ;-)

I agree Chris, i was ready to move in when i found that place! Sofie already claimed the best house for herself but there are still plenty of others in good shape!

yea Idaho looks really promising, check out the book southern idaho ghost towns by wayne sparling and youll see why, plus the book gives maps and locations!
that inclined shaft was sweet what i wanted to do was wrap 75 feet of my jeep winch cable around the drum of the mine winch and put my hook to where the mine cable goes into the drum and start spooling in to see what comes up, i didnt get to do that but the mine winch was free and would turn.

we should do another trip out to that utah ghost town with the buildings it was by far the most complete untouched late 1800s mine and mine town i have ever seen! it is 3.5 hours from salt lake city, plus i was talking with some locals later that day and there are at least 3 more ghost towns in the area!

Wow Mike! When I first saw those photos I was at work and had to immediately stop what I was doing and show them to my coworkers -- they were impressed. Great job on researching and locating these archeological gems so far off the beaten path. Some of the ruins don't look at all ruined and appear as though they could be put back into working condition. Or better yet, converted into an outdoor museum. It is amazing how intact these mine sites are especially when you consider how much work goes into preserving what little is left of our mining history on the east coast. While it was sad to see the tombstone of a child, at least the monument has certainly stood the test of time.
