Nice pictures. I have to agree I like it better before they were working on it but it saved the site.

Wow, great photos! Nice find!

Yeah, I love the old opening before they "modernized" it. Reminds me a lot of Slope 179 before that was "modernized". Yeah that mine looked pretty bad.. really bad..

I wonder how they were able to work on it as that mine has problems with black damp. They must have had good faith in the placements of the fans and good faith on the condition of the mine to the fans.

why didnt they leave the opening the way it was? Also is the mine tour connected to abandoned mines through the tunnels?

because its in a park and they didnt want the liability of people falling down the highwall. is the mine connected to old works...... well lets just say the tour is in approximately 5% of that mine, you can take what you want from that.

yes, but the water is about 100 feet below the gangway the tour is on. there are 2 escapeways for this mine, one is the pod. the other, the new county escapeway, takes you out the gangway further through old works, up an internal slope through a rock tunnel into the new county vein from the clark, down a gangway, up a chamber to a 50 foot airshaft and ladder to the surface.

so the slope you come into the mine on only goes to the tour level? and are there any levels above the one the tours on? are there any plans to expand the tour?
