Another Electrode on here. I think you make three. I've also been an electrician on a bridge section. Hardest section I ever worked on (other than a longwall). Nothing like dragging hydraulic oil all the way to #4 mbm. Looks like your miner is a phillips rebuild one of the few places I've seen that paints a Joy White. Hmm Tn I wonder if they will take a WV Electrical card? I love that state may have to come and go to work down there.

good eye, yes it was a phillips rebuild, the section is only 4 months old. Tn has no state regulatory, only federal law applys here, so if you have a WV card, im sure it passes as a fed card also.

i had an opportunity to spend some time with terry phillips from phillips machine and from what he said our coal is lower than you have there, and lower pay scale. :cry:

as a matter of fact i took him underground thru one of the old sections we pull out of... his eyes almost popped out of his head! he called it "death valley!" :lol:

Low wages that sucks. How low is it? can be too low your using a 1410 Joy. I've worked where a Eimco Dash-0 is rubbing the top. Less than 30 inches. All way down to 27.

don't get me wrong, we have low coal, but i'd like to see a miner squeezing through like that!

mechanic pay where i am is $18.00 hr. i made that much at tennco 3 years ago!

So exactly how do these things work?

I think:

Miner > conveyor > base > conveyor > base > conveyor > base > conveyor > fixed belt.

Each "base" has an operator moving it up as the miner advances.

What is the short/compressed vs fully extended length?

How often does the anchor to the belt need to be moved?

O.k. lets start at the belt. the belt is not anchored it runs on a 250 foot long piece of solid structure called the low low. it is very heavy and has no rollers in it , other than the tail roller. This is why it does not have to be anchored. Lets get to some terms. The part where the operator sits is the MBM. This is where the cats, hydraulic pump is located. the part that goes in between the two is the CBM. # 4 mbm is located directly under the miners boom. This MBM has a hopper on it or just a open area so the coal can get on the chain. it chains coal to #cbm , to #3 mbm to #3 cbm and so on and so on. until #1 cbm the one that is riding on the belt dumps it on to the belt. Oh, yeah some people call the cbm "pigs" for some reason.

Please define the acronyms.

Does this have a belt or drag chains? Do the CBM's extend or are they fixed, I'm thinking they extend.

MBM. Mobile bridge Module. CBM. Conveyor bridge module. That is Joy stamler terms. I think Bucyrus calls it MBC for Mobile bridge carrier. These have drag chains on them. The cbms are mounted on slides on the Mbm. Joy has a flexible conveyor system called the conveyor train. I have no experience with these and know no mines that have used them but, they are on their website.
