Hi guys,
I'm new around here and I love your site. I realize this site is primarily focused on mines east of the Mississippi, but is there any interest in western mines? I've got lots of photos of abandoned Colorado mines, along with some in Utah, New Mexico, and even Alaska. Let me know and I'll start posting pics.

Cheers,
Matt

Yeah Mate, I'm up for that, post away.
I've been all over the West on quite a few trips to the States and couldn't/didn't get to see everything. Especially Frisco, Utah as the line on the map looked shorter that what it really was and it was on dusk when I finally made there.

Mike, thanks for those esp. the mine at the bottom of Frisco #2. Thats supposedly the Black Diamond mine. This style of headframe and hoisthouse etc was very common up around Eureka and the Tintic district. In fact when I first saw these pics I thought that it was the Beck Tunnel. I had wanted to head back to Frisco at the end of my last trip but defered on a wild Mancha hunt around Fallon.

Seeing there's a huge bridge being built on #93 out in front of the Hoover Dam I now have 2 reasons to get back in a few years time.

P.S. Frisco on dusk wasn't as half as scary as San Francisco after dark.

We might be primarily located on the East, but we love mines all over. Feel free to discuss anything on Mines out West (or anywhere) as it just gives us more excuses to go out for another visit!

Was wasting some time browsing and found an interesting mining collection online including a picture of Frisco some time after it's heyday.

Some nice pics here and in full panoramic too! What a better way to look at an old mine in an area I only want to fly over.

The ruins of the Kelly Mine look very reminiscent of the Lake Mine in New York, particularly the concentrating mill (http://www.ironminers.com/ironmines/lake-mine-2.htm).

There are a lot of parallels between mines out here and in the west. Unfortunately (for us), the structural remains are usually more deteriorated if not no longer extant.

Yeah, the Concentration Mill does look similar. Lake Mine was only a single compartment shaft, (this mine appears to be multi-compartment), but nevertheless pretty neat.
