Mike,

Some great shots! Thanks for posting these up! I see a bat gate on a lot of those entrances. Are all the entrances sealed up except that one? Were these locked bat gates (for bat counts, etc.) or were they permanently sealed?

Thanks! I saw three entrances, two of which were bat gated. The gated entraces had locks and tiny doors, so somebody is able to get inside. A third entrance was wide open, but only went in a short ways.

interesting mike, i heard of these but never made it down to see them. im going to be going down to york to drop off some of my plane materials to get laser cut at a machine shop down there may have to check this out!

Just wondering but did you guys find these mines from the Info i Sent someone à while ago? Also you can get into the gated mines ive been in the larger gated One. It y's and dead ends maybe another hundred Feet Inside. Theses also à Small exploratory Tunnel Six Feet up above the floor. The Park Service Stores stuff for the archeogly Camp in there.

yep sure. is the unsealed mine worth checking out inside? ive found the entrance but didnt have a light that day

Its not worth a special trip, but if you are in the park you'll want to check it out. If its bright outside, you probably won't need a light. I didn't venture in, but from the entrance, it looked like you could see the entire mine. Its pretty tall, so daylight seemed to reach all the way in.

alright thanks. are there other iron mines in the area that you know of? i know this is an obcsure part of york history becasue my grandparents who live there and have for over 50 years never heard of them. ive tried to look for more but never found them.
