Great picture! Where did you get these? I know of one in Carbondale that has been partly scrapped but still there after many years. I'm wondering if it's the one you have pictured. I'll have to take a look again. Not the one that Silverbrook MIne still has either.

Thanks. Private collection. There was probably more than one dragline up in Carbondale. So far, this is the only one I'm aware of.

The old draglines are certainly interesting. These made me think of some pics I seen on a dragline site. I may have to go back and see where those were taken.

there still are a few lying around in the nf. there was a decent size one in avoca, one up at casey kasas pit near archbald, 2 in the strip pit above the laurel run mine fire. one up on the hill above jermyn, one in forest city digging..... they are the ones i can think of off the top of my head.

Mr. Murley, I can only spent a limited amount of time up there. Don't go overloading me.

Chris, I know the one in Avoca and Laurel Run. What about the one in Jermyn? Where?

As for the one in Archbald, if we are thinking of the same one. You go up Salem Rd and turn left (near the shooting range on the right) onto the private dirt road marked Silverbrokk mine company. Correct?

Forest City, I don't get up there.

The one at Kasas pit in Archbald is a Manitowoc 4600. The one in Laurel Run (if it's the one I'm thinking of that you can see from 81 on the mountain) in an older Manitowoc 4500, owned by Mike Corgan. Both of those are crawler drags. 7yds on a 4600 and 4 1/2 on a 4500. It's not uncommon to go on any strip mine and see a 4600, they're the most popular drag around….very productive machines.

Don't know about this one in Jermyn. Is it a walking drag or a crawler Chris?

Ok, on the West Mt side. From Sugarmans, you can (or use to as I haven't looked in many years) the boom sticking up through the tree tops.

There's one other in Archbald, about three minutes from the one you know of. I have a pic somewhere here of it, i'll look. The boom has been torch and on the ground since I was 13. The boom disappeared as I visited the sight about May 2009 for the first time since 1998 and the body is there and the pulley. I should go and get that, anybody want to help? It's only a few feet in diameter.
