Special thanks to our persistant team on saving another piece of mining history.

Well, what a great way to kick off the holiday. This was a project that started almost a year ago & it has paid off. Ohio Vintage Coal Co. is aquiring an 8 ton Baldwin Westinghouse open frame trolley locomotive that is 42" gauge. This locomotive operates off an overhead trolley wire that is 250 volts. This model of the Baldwin locomotive transformed the coal hauling industry from low tonnage to the requirements of the industrial demanding needs of the steel mills.

SPECIAL thanks to The Ohio Valley Coal Co. / Powhatan #6 mine for the gracious donation. Ohio Vintage Coal Co. is honored to aquire & restore this locomotive as a part of Ohio's coal mining heritage.

Chris the best part is that I have never had a chance to look at that locomotive. From what Mike said, I hope this is true, it may just only need painted (we never quite get that lucky though  ).

Well you hit that story on the head. It sounds like one of our former projects.

The interesting thing that has been changed on this locomotive is that instead of the controller going straight to the traction motors this unit has had a control contactor set installed. Not to mention all the resistor banks for dynamic braking. The wheels are also very big in diameter it must hve been designed as a main haulage locomotive at one time for the speed.

yea thats cool it has dynamic breaking. and i noticed the size of the drive wheels. im assuming this has 2 motors? i would defintaly say main haulage looking at the size of the wheels.

There is a smaller version of this locomotive in YOUR TERRITORY. Lets see if you might know where it is. Hint, it is painted black & you have seen it.
