If we are talking about mine water discharge I would go with

Millions of Gallons per Day.

But that is just a guess.

because i found i site that lists names of discharges and what mine they come out of, but iwant to make sure its not completely flooded before i try to find them. So a discharge of 0.06 MGD would probably not be completely flooded?

That calculates out to about 40 gallons per minute which would be a pretty small discharge. The amount of water coming out of a discharge can not tell you how much of the mine is flooded. Once the mine floods to the point of the lowest surface opening, water comes out, how much water depends on the size of the flooded area and how much surface water is being captured by the minepool.

How much of the mine is flooded depends on the elevation of the discharge. if the discharge is a drainage tunnel driven into the lower levels of the mine, much of the mine might be above water, if the discharge is a slope or a airhole most of it will be flooded.

Although, some discharges are above the minepool, usually these are smaller discharges; they intercept minewater before it reaches the level of the minepool. The water from some of these discharges end up going back underground so they will not show up on any AMD discharge list.

Which discharge are you looking at?

As the others have said the MGD is Million Gallons per Day. So the flow of 0.06 MGD is equal to 60,000 gallon/day. 1.0 = one million.

The equation to figure out gallons/minute is
60,000/24/60= 41.66 gals/min or gallons/day/(24) hours/day/(60) minutes/hour

Sorry for the ramble just my field of expertise (Industrial Wastewater)

Aaron
