Here is an article I found online about some one who worked in the #9 coal mine near Gary WV

The reason I mentioned the portal bus thing on this foroum earlier is because this narrative happened in the mid 1960's and they were already using portal busses

AND

the other book COALWOOD....it has the Caretta mines in it as well.

The Gary Hollow area is very impressive...been there several times. It was a community under the control of U.S. Steel.

You are in luck there 50tonloco...they used to run those down there....all long gone now. I have some underground pics of the Gary #9 mine 8)
