How many trips of coal could the rail hualage system at Shoemake mine run at a time? from that video it looked like there was a lot of those 50 ton locomotives

What is typical for a hualage system from that era?

Good questions, I'm dying to learn more about how Shoemaker's rail network ran.

I was just there yesterday.

The mine is in full production again with the rail haulage system now converted to belt. Shoemaker now has 375-400 miners back to work again.

To answer your question Shoemaker had the capabilities to pull up 900 ton of coal every 20 minutes or so at max capacity. 45 mine cars with a 50 ton in the front and one in the back. That doesnt happen 365 days a year just when everything was running like it should.

But how many trains of coal would be run at one time? because it looks like from the video that they had more then two of those 50 ton locomotives

To answer your question on the number of 50 tonners....they still have approximately 14 Jeffrey's still on site. They had even more during full production.

So they could have had up to six trains plus two for spares assuming they had enough mine cars
