I know this sounds like a nubee question but...

What is this?

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=carbondale,+pa+&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=35.082817,77.958984&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Carbondale,+Lackawanna,+Pennsylvania&ll=41.577772,-75.501609&spn=0.002022,0.006802&t=h&z=18

and where is/was the Carbondale rail yard, the one that Linde has rebuilt and is it the same yard where there was a roundhouse that LVC #126 came out?

I have no Idea so dont worry about it being a newbie question, you arent the only one, in fact ive only ever been to carbondale once by accident. and remember theres nothing wrong with being a little green because when your green you are growing, when you are ripe, you rot

Yep that's the foundation for the old roundhouse. That was torn down late 90s and is where lvc 126 came from. Word is 126 was steamed there early 90s to give short rides around carbondale. Didn't passage boiler inspection so it sat. Baumanns owned it and the roundhouse. The coalbrook powerhouse was pretty cool just down from that (check our site) but all that remains of that now is the turbine generator.

Was up there yesterday, I must have drove past the right-hand turn into the yard about 20-30 times in the last 20 years-don't know how I never knew. We need an emoticons to represent kicking one-self in the ass. I need to do lots of exploring to catch-up, although most is gone.

i feel the same way. you cat's don't know how lucky you are. any forgotten structure of any interest around here has been gone a long time or has been destroyed a hundred times over by all the rotten ass kids. if you ever want a partner, don't hesitate.

I don't believe the me262 jet engine story.

According to everything I've read the 262 engines were only good for 10 hours before they died from their own heat. Germany lacked both the rare elements and the metallurgical skills to make jet engines run reliably for extended periods.

I don't think Germany could even produce enough engines for the 262's they built. I recall seeing pics of many 262 airframes with no engines to power them.

Finally, a 262 engine had, what, at most perhaps 2000 lbs. of thrust. What good is that small amount going to do for a train weighing, what, 1000 tons?

this site explains most of what I say: http://www.stormbirds.com/project/techn ... ical_3.htm

It's a neat legend at this point but without pictures I think it's a hoax.
