Sportsman,

Thanks for posting up the photos!

Hey I recognize many of those shots. I'd love to see the whole photo shoot, but it looks like you have a big area of mines covered. I am assuming these mines are not right next to each other?

I never seen the brick lined drainage tunnel or the draining drainage tunnel or the photos below that. Are any of those lower photos connected as in that they are same mine or worked the same seam? Pretty neat, thanks for sharing.

Hello Miner Greg!

I've never been in a mine complex like this before. Getting it straight when your above ground is difficult!

I'll post the rest of the pictures up when time allows. Many of the shots repeat shots from an earlier post on the board.

The final set of mines that are illustrated in my thread are kind of hidden. I found the waste weir, the small adit, and the kiln on my first, brief, exploration of the area.

My partner found the new adits.

I've just ordered som new lights, a little more substantial than what I've been using, and once they arrive, I plan on visiting the new mines.

If you'd like to see them, maybe we could coordinate a visit there.

Been doing a little research about the area.

These may be the "Ponchockie" mines.

Research continues.

Some of these look pretty deep. Where you able to safely make it to the bottom of any of these? We certainly need to make if back to this area as there is tons of stuff out that way. Pretty good shots, thanks for posting them up!

That's the next planned trip.

New lights here on the 29th, and then we set a date to go back.

They look dry and as they haven't been travelled in a while.

A new adventure!

I've also found some reference to these being the "Knaust Caves". Knaust was the "Mushroom King" of the Hudson Valley who was invited by Snyder to use the mines. Later, Knaust started Iron Mountain, a document storage company using old mines.

I think there's a storage facility in an old iron Mine in Livingston NY, one in Ancram NY, and I know of two nearby here, one on Port Ewen and in Rosendale.

I would love to tag along if possible. I'm from the area and am familiar with exploring abandoned mines. I actually joined Miner Mike on an adventure into the Croton Magnetic mine (http://www.ironminers.com/mineforum/viewtopic.php?t=482). I'm looking to get back into my hobby of underground exploration.

My new lights came in to day, as soon as my schedule opens I plan on going.

Looks like we may be heading back into that mine area on the 18th of December, weather permitting.
