Hey,

Tonight on the discovery channel at 10:00 pm is a show on the Quecreek Mining Disaster. The advertisements look pretty good, let's hope the Discovery Channel doesn't let us down.

yup thats right....the states response to Quecreek was to make ALL the mine maps in the commonwealth of PA available to whom ever to prevent mining into old workings

I'm watching now...

Five minutes in and I have questions:

1) They have showed rail and muckers. Quecreek was continous miner and belts..... where was this filmed.

3) Rescue site looks more like Kansas than Sommerset Co, PA.

I should cut the producers a few breaks. But not as many as they need.

Reading the reports were more interesting.

Hasn't this story already been told in the form of "The Pennsylvania Miners' Story" back in 2002? They used continuous miners in the former version! If you're going for a true story, you really should try to depict the underground environment as faithfully as you can. While I didn't get a chance to see this, and I do prefer seeing rail haulage and muckers over continuous miners, I believe the access they had to this mine should have been spent creating a moving fictional account of a mine rescue. Or perhaps write a story that takes place underground without any catastrophe! Instead it seems the producers are just cashing in over the recent mine disasters in people's minds.

Except for some news footage. Nothing looked like Pa or a coal mine. This has all the look of being filmed in a Western Hard Rock mine. And from looking at the credits, I believe the supervisor and miner they "inteviewed" may have been actors an dnot the actual guys.

If you want facts and information about this incident this is not the place. You want a heart-wrenching docudrama go for it.

Yeah, that was too bad. I was expecting a little more out of this. They were not even wearing the right gear, some of that stuff they could have easily gotten right. Weren't there some real photos and documentation released from the real mine? It would have been nice to see some of this..

Yeah actually those are the photos I saw... Sure looks a LOT different than the series I just saw! They sure didn't use ComfoCaps on there and everyone has them in the rescue photos..
