have yall heared about the plans jim justice has for national coal LLC? as of dec 15 his deal to finalize buying the shareholders out ended by him paying a premium for the shares (around 150%) of the market value! the company shut down for the week of christmas (as usual), then the men went back to work the following monday only to get laid off wednesday, then they fired all of the management here in jacksboro and at the offices in knoxville!

restructuring??? why else pay a premium for a company only to shut it down???

the reason this concerns me... i have been out of mining for the past 10 months (went back to HVAC repairs), then i was offered a job at a mine national had faced up, so i turned in my notice and quit my job (cant return), and before i could get hired on all the above took place! now im broke, without a job and i dont qualify for unemployment!

i understand completely if they wanted to get rid of the upper management to "trim the fat", there were too many of them anyhow, but it would be nice to know if they are planning on repening... why would they buy the company unless they planned on running coal?

any ideas?

Man, I hate to hear that. That sucks. I know a lot about Jim Justice. He used to own Bluestone coal. I worked for them for one day. Yep, one day. They were known to run sorry a$$ coal mines. He sold Bluestone to the Russians. Man, did they ever get cheated. Then all of the sudden he buys the Greenbriar resort and National coal. Now he has big plans of putting a longwall in Harlen KY. How does one do that? He couldn't pay his bills at Bluestone ( No vendor would sell to them unless it was COD.) You might want to check out of state for a while. They are hiring like crazy in WV, VA and Eastern KY.

If you have a federal card then WV should honor it. Maybe. I don't know I'm in the process of getting my MSHA part 75 and 77 instructor. I can probably talk to an inspector.

What is a Part 75 or 77 Instructor? How does this differ from a basic IU Instructor/ Underground?

CFR part 75 applies to underground and part 77 applies to surface operations.

IU (instructor underground) IS (instructor surface)... i have both, electrical card and the mine rescue training.

i have my application in with MSHA... went to barbourville last year (nov) and passed all their tests so it would be nice to get a call from them. all of my local inspector friends told me to not expect a call within the first year, they said no one gets hired within the first year of the completed application.

Doug part 75.153 and 77.103 deals with electrical surface and underground, working on my instructor for those. Already have part 48 which is underground miner training. UG Mech yeah, wouldn't expect a phone call anytime soon. They are weird about hiring. If you can't get a job as an electrician there are many companies up here that would hire you as a mech underground. Would be better if you had a card = more money. Mech up here 23-27 hr. Electrician 25(union) to 37 hr.

I didn't think about electrical. That hasn't shown up on my radar.
