"In portraying the principal operations in the mining and preparation of this importnat natural resource, we hark back to the days when it was possible to dig a hole in the side of a hill and scoop out the coal."

"That's Boootleggin!" :)

Sadly DEP, MSHA and the Coal Owners didn't think it was a good idea either.

Is it just me, or can you see some tire marks when he is hauling away the wagon full of coal?

Ahh, the good old days of "light the fuse and run like hell!"

I'm also guessing that the cable in front of the motor is the cord?

The levers in the hoist house look like the old Armstrong Levers for an interlocking plant on a railroad

thats a cable reel. think of it as a giant extension cord. the gathering locomotives had them so they didnt have to run trolley wire everywhere into every chamber. they would hook the end of it on the trolly line in the main gangway and go into the chambers and fetch the cars. then it would retract as they motored back to the gangway.

The idea of long power cords is used on a lot of Bitty Equipment still.
