I've got an old koehler wheat lamp that belonged to my father. It's probably 30 years old and hasn't been used in years. I'm guessing it's a 5100 model but I could be wrong. It uses the 4 volt battery. I'd probably be better off getting a new one but I guess I'm fixing it because it belonged to my dad.

The wires around the back of the head lamp were worn out and bare so I cut them back a little and resoldered them. I thought that I looked at which one went where before I cut them but I think I got it backwards. Can anyone tell me which one goes to with terminal? I'd hate to ruin a good battery because I mixed up the wires.

Thanks,
Snuffy

If there is one thing that I understand in this world, it is fixing things that have a lot of sentimental value. I believe that even though something is difficult to fix, and you would save money by just buying a new one, if it belonged to someone close to you, or was yours for a long time, the effort is well worth it. I wish you good luck.

It shouldn't be polarity-sensitive, but if you want to be 100% to spec, use a meter and determine the positive (you will get a pos reading or a neg reading for your voltage) and wire the red to positive.

To be honest though, it's a 30 year old battery. I'm guessing that it is long gone so if you're not getting anything from it, the battery is quite probably shot.

Are you intending to use it in a mine or elsewhere?

If you look over the old post we have talked about somethings to try on old batteries.
