Where can I get spikes for mine rail? I know there was a few threads on track laying projects so I assume they aren't too hard to find.

Couldn't you use spikes that railroads use, or are they too big?

They are way too big. Mine spikes range from 2.5" to 6" long. We had 3.5" ones that I found at a antique shop / scrap yard. Got 4, 5 gallon pails full of new old stock spikes for 50 bucks! Still have one pail full. We got some brandy new ones. when we were doing work at no.9 mine from Atlantic track and turnout.

Harmer steel in Portland Oregon have them. And new rail too! It's just a matter of $$ and how much you want to part with. Roll Models of Fresno, Calif. was selling new 12lb rail so they should also have spikes. Both have websites.
Discover Live Steam has a For Sale section that often includes track and fastenings for sale.
I use a 1/2"x 2-1/2" Coachscrew (lagbolt?) with a 1-5/8" washer for 12lb rail on my 18" gauge tramway. We also use the same on the park railway on 18lb as well. The screw is better only for the ability to remove it easily.
