Cool pics, glad you got it figured out. Any chance of saving the motor and slusher or are they doomed to rust away?

I see you found a good one. Be sensitive on here posting locations...... It's a public forum. You should have seen that place 10 years ago before someone scrapped all the copper trolly wire and power cables out if there! The only way to get those motors out would be pull the shaft cap off and hoist them up the shaft. That's how they used to get them in and out of the mine. They were too long to fit on the elevator cage so they hung them by the end under the cage. Then they'd pull them out onto the landing.

Thanks for sharing your pics.....

Well, that sucks. I seen the hoist shaft but didn't figure that was how y'all accessed the workings. What are the concrete block buildings for?

Couldn't you break them down into basic components and hoist them out of there with a pulley?

Glad you figured out how to post the photos. That is an incredible mine, a ton of good stuff to see. The GE motors are great to photograph, but they are pretty shot. There is a lot of rust on them, I'm not sure you'd ever be able to restore them even if devised a way to hoist them up the shaft. I'm sure internally they are deteriorated pretty badly judging by the rust on the outside.

I'll have to work my way out there one day soon. I just need to get hired by a manufacturing place looking for a skilled machinist. (I found out that I enjoy using a vertical mill in shop class, and that I have a natural knack for it.) I suppose a driver's license would be helpful, too.

I think you guys have to be crazy! This just plain looks dangerous! *BUT* what the heck? If no one were to do this, then how would this most fascinating history be preserved? One guy posted the question as to how you got in there. But my question is how do you BREATH when you're in there?

Good luck to you and I hope you stay safe. I am looking forward to seeing more pictures!

Regards,
Fred M. Cain

More pics to come and hopefully video once I get set up with that...thanks for your concern, we carry all of the mandatory gear I.e safety lamps and self rescuers. Even then the danger is real and ever present. But I will assume all risk and responsibility for myself and crew to help preserve the history the best we can.

But I still don't understand how you breath in there. Do you carry oxygen tanks with you? Or, is the air actually good enough in that mine to breath?
