Took a trip this summer up to Plymouth with my two nephews ages 3 and 5 for some camping and panning. Got some small colors at both Broad Brook- Camp Plymouth State Park and at Plymouth Five Corners. I did not make it all the way to the mine at Camp Plymouth- next year. It is quite the hike with the gear and there are many crossings and downed trees from Hurricane Irene. Beautiful locations and some more serious prospectors with deep holes going gave me a look at some really nice chunky pickers. We camped at Coolidge State Forest which has awesome views of the area. A few miles north at Bridgewater Corners, you can pan right out back the bar at the Long Trail Brewery. Its a stunning spot on the Quechee River. Food is really good to. Look forward to going again next year

My in-laws live up there about 15mins from Plymouth. Been going up there for over 30 yrs and discovered the gold thing about 5 yrs back. Apparently Irene moved enough river wash around that there has been more gold exposed than there has been in a long time. Might have to do some panning this spring.

Vermont actually had a mini gold rush in the 1800's. Lots of gold in central VT and north west NH. NH gold in the Wild Ammonoosuc is very common but fine. Vermont gold tends to be more course but a bit harder to come by. These areas have a great history of placer and hard rock mining. In NH you can get a permit to dredge- in VT you can get a permit to sluice on private property. Here is a link on youtube to the local pro who gets great gold "yankeegoldprospectingnewengland"
