Hey all!

Got abit adventerous today and walked around the Rowker coal mine. It was not much but either way, it was a good hike and I took some photos.

When I first found it, I was talking to a older gentlemen who said this mine was capped. I asked him if he knew where the opening used to be, he didn't know but I think I found where it was. It's covered up by tons of boulders, and when I look down through the gaps between them, it looks kind of deep. Only my guess here.

Another odd thing I found was timber that was at the top of the coal pile. All along the top. One of the timbers was in a form of an A-frame. Just found it pretty interesting.

Anybody have any info to the history of this coal mine?

I posted my pictues up on myspace. Here is the link-http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=9084958&albumId=1800368

Cheers!

thats the culm pile from the old johnson no.2 colliery. that rowker coal co, is reclaiming the coal out of the culm bank. they use the red ash from the burned pile as anti skid traction control on roads.

PM him your number. Putting your cell number out on the web is a bad idea.

It's a private message. It sends directly and only to who you want it to. On the bottom of someone's post there is a pm button.
