slate car from the slate quarry in pen argyl, outside of stroudsburg. they are scrapping this place, along with 16 steam hoists. mike piersa got one, we might be getting one and the ohio boys got 2 this past weekend. anyways this is where we are getting all of our rail from. brought about 100 more feet home last week. so anyways heres some of their slate cars that were left over. again mike piersa got one and they want to keep the rest. the funny thing is they dont use the rail anymore they just drag them around behind a truck!

Here are some links to photo albums that include views of the steam hoists:

Two of the steam hoists were preserved over the summer by the Rough and Tumble Engineers Historical Association in Kinzers, PA. During their show in August, they connected a temporary one inch steam line to one of the hoists and successfully ran it for the first time in at least a quarter of a century. Photos of the steam hoist in operation are at:

Now keep in mind all the hoists that are left weigh 26,000lbs or more, the (2) we moved were 26,500 & 29,450lbs.

Did you guys pay someone to move this stuff, or rent that large backhoe and truck? You need some heavy equipment for that weight.

We own a machinery moving company. We had also purchased a 20 TON excavator for this job because the location of the hoists does not allow us to get a crane to them. We had a semi truck a bulk of the weight out so far.

Owning the machinery moving company allows us to help resue much of the mining equipment that is going to be scrapped. So call us if you think anything that needs saved especially an entire mine complex of equipment.
