Hey eveyone, new to the group and i have a few questions concerning the koehler wheat lamps, first of all what liquid goes into them, i heard of "electrolyte kits" for them but i would like to know where to get them or what to put in one, i recently came across 2 of them and would like to get one or both working again, they are the older style with the twist lock style charger.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Jt

hey, for your wheat lamps, you said they are old? if they are just fill them with distilled water to the fill line on the sight glass. use a small bottle with a tube on it to fill through the 2 fill ports. one in each sight glass. then put it on the charger. do they have metal tops on the batteries or plastic? if they havent been used in awhile, turn it on and run it down after charging but dont let the bulb go completely out, once it gets dim recharge it. do this several times. a good wheat lamp should last 10-14 hours.

Chris, they are pretty old and have the metal tops on them. They haven't been used for a few years, my grandfather used to use one as pretty much a flashlight a few years back, i'm guessing he got them when he worked underground back when. Since we're now strip mining no real need to have them just want to see if i can get them working again. Btw i work right next to the old Eagle Hill Colliery.
Thanks Again,
Jt

I wonder if Koehler ever sold an electrolyte kit which includes any type of gravity testers for verifying the mix of the electrolyte? I've searched online, but it is difficult to find much on this.

the only thing i've really heard on the electolyte kits is they sell them with the new lamps. I'm assuming the "electrolyte kit" is the acid for the battery?
Btw Chris i have one working and holding a chrage now, i'm going to hook the other one up sometime tonight,
Thanks,
Jt
