I recently got a brand new cap lamp battery but it did not come with electrolyte. I'm wondering if anyone knows what the specific gravity of the battery electrolyte should be, or if there's a place I can buy a bottle of the right stuff. It is for an MSA ML-2 Luminator system.

Thanks

I'm assuming this is an older/used unit that came empty.

I've had good luck with regular battery acid in my koehler. Not saying that is the correct way. But, it seems to work fine. Used lamp batteries have some problems, but if you are not using it for a long-shift and know the discharge time they should be ok.

There should be an msds sheet somewhere on MSA's webiste that may give the specifics or here is the contract information for MSA:

No, it is a brand new cap lamp battery that I bought from an MSA dealer. It has never had acid in it. It is a 13AH battery which is supposed to last 8 hours per charge. The MSA .pdf files on the ML-2 do not specifiy the specific gravity of their electrolyte. I'm reluctant to pour any old acid in it because that will effect both charge time and discharge time for the life of the battery.

Thanks for the contact info, I will get in touch with them soon.

We all know about assuming.

And obviously I was typing before reading closely.

Sounds like you have you electro-chemistry down.
